  • God Has a Fish for You | November 1, 2026

In week five of the Jonah series, Pastor James Sabin teaches "God Has a Fish for You," a message about how God never lets go of us, even in our darkest places. James starts with a story from college: he kept cashing work-study checks for a job he'd stopped showing up to, until the dean called him in. He uses it to show the difference between shame & the Holy Spirit's loving conviction, and why getting caught can be one of God's greatest gifts. Reading Jonah 1:17 and Jonah's prayer in chapter 2, he shows that the fish wasn't God's punishment but His rescue, prepared ahead of time to bring Jonah back to his purpose. Students are encouraged to look for the "big fish" God sends in their own hard seasons, like a well-timed text from a friend, a coach or teacher who shows up, or a moment of getting caught, and to remember that our growth matters more to God than our comfort.

  • Choosing Death to Get Life | October 25, 2026

Pastor James Sabin returns for week four of the Jonah series with a message on one of the strangest ideas in God's kingdom: choosing death to get life. Reading Jonah 1:10–16, where Jonah would rather be thrown into the sea than bring God's mercy to his enemies, James shows students how we still trade life for things that slowly destroy us. Those trades include lying instead of telling the truth, putting ourselves ahead of others, and holding onto revenge instead of forgiving. Drawing on Deuteronomy 30 & Jonah 4:2, he points to a God who always gives us a choice because love never forces, and to Jesus, the better Jonah, who freely gave up His life so we could have real life with peace, joy and purpose.

  • Leave The Nets | October 18, 2026

This week at EDGE, guest speaker Kyle Majnarič — a former WVU wide receiver turned Nashville singer-songwriter — brings a message called "Leave the Nets," born out of a trip to the Sea of Galilee where Jesus first called His disciples. Walking through Matthew 4, Luke 5, and John 21, Kyle shows students the two times Peter left his nets: once when Jesus called him, and again after the resurrection, when Peter had slipped back into old habits and Jesus met him right where he was. He challenges students to name both kinds of nets in their own lives — the ones we cast ourselves (pride, performance, identity built on achievement) and the ones that get cast on us (idolatry, addiction, anxiety, guilt and shame) — and reminds them that Jesus never needed full nets to call anyone, because faithfulness comes before fruitfulness. The night closes with an original song Kyle wrote around the message.

  • Finding Your Own Faith | October 11, 2026

This week at EDGE, leader Josh Madzy opens with a math-class analogy every student knows — copying the homework, acing the assignment, then bombing the test — and uses it to ask a harder question: what if we're doing the same thing with our faith? Teaching from John 4 & the Samaritan woman at the well, Josh explains why inherited faith always leaves us thirsty again: it's shallow, it doesn't produce fruit, it's easy to abandon when life gets hard, and it can't stand in for actually knowing Jesus. He points students to the solution — individual surrender to the Savior, which simply means repenting and believing Jesus is Lord — and gives four practical next steps: ask the tough questions, know what you believe & why, use the faith of your family as fuel rather than a substitute, and bring friends to Jesus instead of just telling them about Him. The night ends on one challenging question: do you know Jesus only because someone else does, or have you met Him for yourself?

  • Remain | October 4, 2026

This week at EDGE, guest speaker Josh Sonoga — a longtime friend of Pastor James Sabin who serves with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and as WVU's football chaplain — teaches from John 15 on what it actually means to "remain" in Jesus. Using Christ's picture of the vine, the branches, and the Father as the gardener; Josh shows our students that staying connected through prayer, Scripture, worship, and real community is the only way a life produces fruit, because a branch cut off from the vine can't produce anything on its own. He also talks openly about pruning — how the things God cuts out of our lives sting for a moment but always lead to better growth — and shares candidly from his own past that God has since redeemed. The night closes with two questions worth sitting with: what are you connected to, and what is your life producing?

  • The Slippery Slope of Compromise | September 27, 2026

In week three of our series on Jonah, Pastor James Sabin unpacks the slippery slope of compromise — intentionally living lower than who God created you to be. Reading through Jonah 1:1–9, James shows how the sailors each cried out to their own gods while Jonah slept below deck, and he challenges students to name the "little gods" they trust instead of the one, true & living God: people, devices, or their own ability. Students learn the two marks of compromise — centering life on something other than God (idolatry) and giving lip service instead of true worship — and hear why Jonah called himself a Hebrew before a worshiper. The takeaway: obedience is the Lord's love language, and repentance is always just one step away, no matter how far you've run.

  • It All Starts With Love | September 20, 2026

This week at EDGE, Pastor James Sabin continues our Jonah series, exploring how God's love relentlessly follows us even when we run from Him. Using Jonah's flight from Nineveh & the storm God sent to wake him up, James teaches our EDGE students that the hardships we face are often God's loving discipline, meant to grow our character rather than punish us. This week, our students learn every believer has been given the ministry of reconciliation — inviting others back to a relationship with God the same way Jonah was called to Nineveh. The message closes with an invitation for students to respond to Jesus and to write down the names of friends & family who don't yet know Him.

  • When You Don't Want to Share | September 13, 2026

This week at EDGE, Pastor James Sabin kicks off a new 6-week series through the book of Jonah, starting with why sharing your faith is scary — for everyone, no matter how long you've walked with Jesus. Using the "Life in Six Words" gospel presentation and the story of Jonah's call to Nineveh, Pastor James unpacks how God's grace and calling on your life never gets revoked, even when fear or pride gets in the way. This week, students are challenged to move from fear to obedience through a simple rhythm: pray, care, share. This EDGE lesson is a must-watch for any student — or parent — wrestling with how to talk about faith with the people they love.
