In this episode, I think about the hazards of pushing writers to create second-screen content and share solidarity for those writers who speak out against that pressure and go on to create nuanced, engaging content in spite of corporate greed.
Incidentally, I know that people listen to podcasts, for example, while doing other things. But second-screen viewing would be like holding a separate conversation while listening to a podcast… I’m not worried about people doing laundry while they listen because folding clothes isn’t feeding your brain dopamine at addiction levels.
If you’re a writer for Netflix or anywhere else where you’ve been pressed to create second-screen content, I want to hear from you. Let’s chat about it!
