In December 2018, Uganda enacted the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019. The Act, among other things, provides for; the protection of the privacy of the individual and of personal data by regulating the collection and processing of personal information. With the passing of this law, Uganda became the 23rd African country and the first in East Africa to have enacted a comprehensive legislation on data protection and privacy.
