Perceived mental & physical stress of endurance runners After finishing his enlistment in the US Marine Corps, Carlos Dones found himself a little out of shape and a little bored. So he decided to start running again, something he did a lot of in his youth and during his military service. But it wasn’t enough for him to just run, he had to do something that challenged him, that forced him to prove himself capable of achieving something that most people would never be able to. He decided to run ridiculously long races. Carlos has participated in multiple endurance events over the past 20 years, including 50-mile runs, 100-mile runs, multiple-day, non-stop events, such as his most recent race, the Grand2Grand, which is 170 miles, 7 day, 6 stage race across the Utah desert in September of 2105. And he did it all while keto. After deciding that he needed to find a better way, he got together with Vinnie Tortorich, and Vinnie coached him on his nutrition. Carlos says that he would never have been able to finish the race if he wasn’t ketogenic.
