EFFECT OF TRAINING
Gen 14:14  And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
Gen 14:15  And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
Gen 14:16  And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
From the above scriptural passages, we saw that Abraham used his trained servants to fight and win against four kings. Many people might think that Abraham won because God was with him, but verse 14 make us to know that he has been training his servants. Training is very important because it improve us which invariably add value to where we live, our community, our organizations, our companies and those around us.
If you read from verse 1 of chapter 14 of Genesis, Abraham was fighting against four kings, no matter how few their armies may be, at least they cannot be fewer than 5,000, yet he and his 318 trained servants defeated the armies and rescued his nephew Lot and all that were captured. From this , we can see that a trained professional is equal to twenty untrained persons.
According to the Webster Collegiate Dictionary, training is to teach, so as to make one fit, qualify or proficient for a task ahead. The Nelson Bible Dictionary defined training as to teach by practice. Training do not just add value to our lives, it builds and develop us. It brings out the best in us, our skills, talent and gift. Practice make perfect, thus the more we train the better we become.
We can be trained by reading books that are relevant to our field of discipline or what we do to acquire relevant knowledge and improve our skills to effectively and efficiently handle task that await us. We should also attend seminars relating to our field, where we will meet like minds with great ideas that will add value to us. We can also be trained by listening and watching tapes and videos of people that will motivate us to do great things, because the secrets of great men are in their stories- Bishop David Oyedepo. Have life coaches, career guide and counsellors who have tow the same path before us.
Some of the impact of training is that it helps us to: do smart work and not hard work. If Abram servants were not trained, it would have been very difficult for him to start training those people as well he would have woefully lost the battle, endangering the lives of his servants. The training has prepared then for every form of eventuality. Training give us edge over the untrained. It aid occupational and organizational growth. Some people are stocked in a position complaining without knowing that they are where they are because they have not been developing themselves. Training build one’s confidence because it empowers one with the relevant knowledge and skills for the task ahead.
