In this episode Dustin, Skylr, and Spencer delve into the complicated political situation that led to the outbreak of the Eighty Years' War. This conflict pitted mighty Spain and its devout Catholic leader against the rebellious, Protestant provinces of the Netherlands.
Eighty Years' War, (1568–1648): also known as the Dutch War of Independence, which led to the separation of the northern and southern Netherlands and to the formation of the United Provinces of the Netherlands (the Dutch Republic).
Note: In Dutch and English historiography the Dutch struggle for independence from the Spanish Crown in the 16th and 17th century was long known as the Eighty Years' War. More recently, the initial part of this period has become known as the Dutch Revolt.
