Episode 12: Season Finale!  It's been a fun ride doing the electrochemistry podcast.  We finish off this first season of the podcast off with a bit of a rant between Neil and Alex about all the topics we've struggled with in electrochemistry.  Hopefully, you will enjoy and relate to this little venting session between Neil and Alex. 

Episode 11: The path from undergrad to full professor is non-linear with Bill Mustain - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil have a special guest, Professor. Willaim (Bill) Mustain. Bill talks about how he got into electrochemical engineering and how his path from undergraduate to full professor was filled with twists and turns.  Overall he has encouraging advice to undergraduates who might feel lost and don't know what to do. We'll finish up the episode with a game of EChem Abstract Madlibs!

Episode 10: The Ambitious Undergrad Andre - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil look at a strange working electrode issue from Andre, who is an undergrad doing research in electrochemistry.  As an undergraduate, Andre was working under the guidance of a 3rd year graduate student Martin, who's is tasked with off loading as much work to Andre as he could.  Andre being the bright-eyed and excited undergrad was feeling ambitious and thought he could do even more experiments than Martin assigned him.  However, in the process it looks like Andre might have damaged some electrodes in the process.  Alex and Neil take a look at how to troubleshoot working electrode issues. We'll finish up the podcast with a fun game of Password with special guests Tim and Courtney!!

Episode 8: Jackson's Hard Time Circuit Fitting - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil discuss post-doc Jackson who is developing new materials for electrochemical sensors.  Jackson uses DC techniques and AC techniques to characterize his materials.  He got some very good experimental results, but when he started doing EIS circuit fitting he found that the circuit fit wasn't working.  No matter how much he played with the settings and the equivalent circuit elements, he couldn't get the EIS data to fit.  Alex and Neil dive into the world of EIS circuit fitting to see if they can figure out what is causing Jackson's problem.  We'll finish up the podcast with a fun game of Two Truths and a Lie!

Episode 7: Regina's Potentiostat Problem - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil discuss post-doc Regina who has actually been doing electrochemistry for a while.  She did her Ph.D. in electrochemistry and her new PI was excited for her to join as a post-doc to help teach electrochemistry to the group.  However, one day a grad student presented Regina with a potentiostat problem she couldn't figure out.  Throughout Regina's graduate career she never experienced this problem and didn't know what to do.  Regina felt somewhat frustrated as she was viewed as the expert in electrochemistry in the group, but couldn't figure out what was going on.  Today we'll discuss Regina's problem and see if we can figure out what is going on with her potentiostat.  We'll finish up the podcast with a fun game of EChem Abstract Madlibs!

Episode 6: Jing's Glovebox Noise - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil discuss grad student Jing who is a 2nd year graduate student preparing for her qualifying exam which is in 3 weeks.  She is doing inorganic synthesis of a cobalt complex in a glovebox.  Jing has some good results, but needs some cyclic voltammetry data.  However, when she tried to perform CV experiments in the glovebox she was getting a lot of noisy data.  Alex and Neil take a deep dive into what could be causing this noise.  We'll finish up the podcast with a fun game of Password with special guests Tim and Courtney!

Episode 5: Connor's Unusual Electrode Contamination - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil discuss grad student Connor who has spent a lot of time developing procedures for synthesizing and testing the electrocatalytic activity of his catalyst, and shared his techniques with a collaborator.  However, there seems to be a large discrepancy between the electrocatalytic results from his lab and the collaborators lab.  We'll discuss what could be causing the discrepancy and how it can be fixed.  We'll finish up the podcast with a fun game of EChem Abstract Madlibs!

Episode 4: Starting an Electrochemistry Company with Dr. Ziad Bitar - In this episode, Alex and Neil interview the founder and owner of EquiLabrium, Dr. Ziad Bitar.  We learn about how Ziad originally got into electrochemistry and what it's like getting a Ph.D. in electrochemistry in France.  We then discuss his experience working in industry and how he built an electrochemistry company from the ground up.  The interview is educational but also a lot of fun.  Finally, they finish with a game of EChem Abstract MadLibs.

Episode 3: Marco and the Old Lab Notebook - In this episode of The Electrochemistry Podcast, Alex and Neil discuss grad student Marco who is great at organic and inorganic synthesis, but now needs to do some cyclic voltammetry experiment to test the electrocatalytic activity.  Marco is new to electrochemistry and it's not in his usual wheel house of chemical techniques.  Marco found an old lab notebook that included notes on how to perform a cyclic voltammetry experiment with the labs potentiostat.  However, after following the instructions the potentiostat wasn't performing the experiments he requested.  We'll discuss what could be causing Marco's issue and we'll finish up the podcast with a fun game of two truths and a lie (electrochemistry edition)!
