The Emblem of Deliverance and the Provider

Listen Later

Shepherds usually had a staff, a stick. Exodus 3:4 tells a story of Moses experiencing a bush that was on fire but wasn't consumed by it. The burning bush being God told Moses to take his shoes off because he was on holy ground. Just today, we should condition ourselves for the presence of God.

Thinking about the staff of Moses, God used this staff as a proof. Exodus 4 explains that this staff was the rod of God. This rod was powerful tool of God that was used as the beginning of the plaques, turned into a snake that ate the magicians tricks. The rod of God was also used to split the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross on dry ground. It was also used to close the Red Sea. It was used to strike a rock for water to burst forth in order to water the Israelites cattle and themselves. The rod of God was held up above Moses' head and as long as it was, the Israelites people were able to prevail against the army of Amalek.

Now we often think we ourselves can do anything. The truth is that we can't do anything of ourselves. The rod was a symbol of the future to come, Jesus Christ. We can't do anything without Jesus Christ. The rod, just a Christ, is used as deliverance in any time of need. We have an emblem that we can hold high which is the cross. The reason one goes to Hell is because they reject Christ as Gods only son and Him being crucified and raised again for our sins.

The rod was also a provider as it provided safety and water. Safety from Pharos and the Amalek armies. Provider of the water when the rock was struck. In our arrogance we often think we can provide and to give safety. When the bills are due and they become paid. When the cupboard is barren but the food comes in. Satan is a coward and always strikes from the back. When he begins to attack Jesus comes from the front and chases the enemy away. Just in today's time we should help out each other and lift them up, hold the up in order to fight against the devil. We should also lift Jesus Christ up for all to see. The purpose of the church is to lift up Jesus Christ and if we can do that the job will get done.
