To me, a cliffhanger ending means the author has not faith in his books.
The worst book in the series. I very much enjoyed the first four. This one was fairly boring. I absolutely hated the ending. The cliffhanger ending is always bad in a book series. To me, it means the author has not faith in his books and has to use this to try to keep readers.
SPOILER: A main character that survived assassins and thieves and wars through 4 books, then gets taken down with a hit to the head after he is stronger, faster and more powerful then in the first 4 books is just plain bad writing.
This book really pissed me off. After 4 very good books then to publish this, I hate it when I loose a good author like this, they are so hard to find.
I don't know if I will buy the next book. It probably depends on how long the wait.
One of the best in the series
Very impressed with this book. The story moved along at a really good pace.I liked seeing several of the characters from the first book. Guy even redeemed Shira from the last book, though I still have the impossible hope of Pol finding someone else. There were a few typos but not enough to be irritating. The only thing I didn't care was how it ended on a major cliffhanger that really does almost break your heart for Pol. I hope the next book really does come out in June! Thanks Guy for writing the books for us so quickly!
Have run into this plot device several times and hated it every time
Book was interesting until the end. Not only is it a cliff hanger ending the author uses what I consider a deus ex machina technique. Have run into this plot device several times and hated it every time. Finished with this series.
The new ending softened a bit...
But as has been described here by other's the ending just feels out of place from the rest of the series.
I don't want to go into too much detail to spoil anything, but after 4 books of Pol growing in strength, it just seemed really jarring to have it end the way it did, even with the revision to it.
I enjoyed the rest of the book, and I I'll give the next one a chance to see where he takes it, but definitely felt like a little bit of a step back compared to the rest of the series. Had he gone a different direction at the end, I would probably have given it 5 stars. But hey, that's why he's the author, and I'm just along for the ride.
Disappointing and annoying ending ruined the book and damaged the series, in my opinion
I enjoyed the other 4 books of the series, and I actually enjoyed the majority of this book. But the ending was so very, very disappointing! I'm going to try to circumspect, but there are going to be some spoilers.
***
Ok, the cliffhanger ending was just so, so bad and annoying. The main character acted stupid and out of character at the end, and then loses his memory and powers? I didn't read 4+ books of character development and progress so that I could see the character reset. I am bitterly disappointed.
