Few actors were as closely associated with Sherlock Holmes as Peter Cushing. He first donned the deerstalker in Hammer Films’ The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), later starred in the BBC’s Sherlock Holmes television series (1968), and returned to the role one final time in the television film The Mask of Death (1984). His thoughtful and faithful portrayal of Holmes remains a favorite among fans of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective.
