One of the things we do when we feel a lack of control over our lives is to look outward for the enemy. But the enemy is also inside. The enemy is our ego. And in particular, it’s our tendency to exert power over others who are weaker, who are vulnerable, to make ourselves feel more important.
I saw a man who was upset with his wife because something spilled, wasn’t even her fault. And he slammed the paper towels down on the table in front of her and he wasn’t helping her. He was aggressing on her.
I saw a father screaming at his four-year-old son, smacking his four-year-old son for innocently picking up some candy off the shelf that was obviously supposed to be paid for, but he didn’t know any better.
The enemy is inside. It’s our character. It’s what we do when we think nobody’s looking and we act bad. That’s the enemy. Think about it.
