Today's episode of "Navigate The Day" is all about happiness and how it can be the enemy of itself. I was inspired by a journal prompt that asked me to reflect on the happiness that I might be putting off and could have right now.
As someone who values freedom of time, I expected to be happy on a day off from work, but instead I found myself worrying about money and feeling anxious. I realized that I had been prioritizing money over time, even though I have savings and am doing okay financially. This made me think about how much I was letting worry rob me of happiness in the moment.
Looking back on my journal entries, I realized that I had been so caught up in chasing future goals that I was forgetting to enjoy the present. Just like a traveler who focuses so much on reaching their destination that they forget to enjoy the journey, I was so focused on achieving future goals that I was missing out on the present experiences.
So, I made a decision to stop postponing joy and happiness. I learned to be more grateful for what I already have and to focus more on the present moment. By doing this, I found that I could enjoy the journey as well as the destination. The most valuable thing I have is my choice, and I choose to focus on the here and now, rather than what I don't have.
