On this episode, we discuss the twenty-fifth Best Picture Winner: “The Greatest Show On Earth.”
"The Greatest Show on Earth" is a dazzling spectacle of life behind the scenes of the Ringling Brothers - Barnum & Bailey Circus. The story follows circus manager Brad Braden dealing with a number of issues facing the upcoming circus season, including the stingy board of directors, as well as a number of problematic circus "divas" with their own issues. Meanwhile, the past of a strange clown who refuses to remove his makeup is about to catch up with the circus as a whole. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille, the film stars Betty Hutton as trapeze artist Holly, Cornel Wilde as trapeze artist The Great Sebastian, Charlton Heston as the circus manager Brad Braden, James Stewart as the clown 'Buttons,' as well as Dorothy Lamour as Phyllis and Gloria Grahame as Angel.
