On this episode, we discuss the twenty-sixth Best Picture Winner: “From Here to Eternity.”
"From Here to Eternity" takes place at an Army barracks in Hawaii in the days preceding the attack on Pearl Harbor, where lone-wolf soldier and boxing champion "Prew" Prewitt refuses to box, preferring to play the bugle instead. Hard-hearted Capt. Holmes subjects Prew to a grueling series of punishments while, unknown to Holmes, the gruff but fair Sgt. Warden engages in a clandestine affair with the captain's mistreated wife. Directed by Fred Zinnemann, the film stars Burt Lancaster as Sgt. Milton Warden, Montgomery Clift as Robert E. Lee Prewitt, Deborah Kerr as Karen Holmes, Donna Reed as Alma aka Lorene, Frank Sinatra as Angelo Maggio, and Ernest Borgnine as Sgt. 'Fatso' Judson.
Here on The Envelope, we discuss & review every Best Picture Winner in the Academy Awards History.
