The Envelope – Ep. #37 – My Fair Lady

Listen Later

On this episode, we discuss the thirty-seventh Best Picture Winner: “MY FAIR LADY.”

"My Fair Lady" follows pompous phonetics professor Henry Higgins who is so sure of his abilities that he takes it upon himself to transform a Cockney working-class girl into someone who can pass for a cultured member of high society. His subject turns out to be the lovely Eliza Doolittle, who agrees to speech lessons to improve her job prospects. Higgins and Eliza clash, then form an unlikely bond -- one that is threatened by an aristocratic suitor.  Directed by George Cukor, the film stars Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle, Rex Harrison as Professor Henry Higgins, Stanley Holloway as Alfred P. Doolittle, and Wilfrid Hyde-White as Colonel Hugh Pickering.

Here on The Envelope, we discuss & review every Best Picture Winner in the Academy Awards History.
