But the growing new faith of Christianity met head on with the society and the government. Paul calls out to the believers to address godliness and being content. In a day and age where money and how much you have is a sign of your wealth and success, Paul’s message to Timothy echoes a volume of truth.

Contented Godliness Epistles of Timothy Pt3

Paul mentions the issue of rich, gain, and coveting. He tells Timothy that ‘godliness with contentment is great gain’. Further it is here that he says, ‘having food and raiment let us be content’. In the nations of men today, this message for most of the modern world is out of date. Especially in America where we live the theme that we have life that ought to be lived in liberty and be able to pursue happiness. In this pursuit, happiness can only be achieved by money and wealth.

Moreover, this is the signal we feed our children through the media and movies that we watch. But for Christians and Christianity, it is not this at all. The dividing line here is seen and the border must not be crossed. We are to be content in our godliness and right living for Jesus Christ. In that life, having something to wear on our bodies and food to put in it is sufficient. With this, let us be content. Not a message we like to hear in America!
