Following a ruling by the US Supreme Court on 20th February 2026 that struck down the Trump’s presidential authority on impose duties on virtually every country, Malaysia’s former investment, trade and industry minister, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, has stated that Malaysia is no longer tied to the 19% US’ reciprocal tariff deal signed last October.

Simultaneously, US President has warned that countries attempting to exploit the Supreme Court’s tariff ruling to escape trade agreements will face steeper tariffs than those originally negotiated with his administration.
