Description: The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus' five great teaching moments in the gospel of Matthew. Here, we take a look specifically at the eight "blessings" or Beatitudes that Jesus pronounces, blessings that seem counterintuitive. It would be a mistake for us to see the Beatitudes as simply a new list of moral imperatives. Jesus is offering the disciples--and us--a concreted description of how we need to be transformed from the inside out into the image of Christ.
