Isaiah 66:17-20Isaiah briefly addresses the absolute end of false prophets, but then he turns to the glory of the Lord. In this setting, it is the glory of Jesus in His return to earth. In His omniscience He knows and will know the thoughts of every human. Survivors from all the earth will see Him and proclaim HIs glory everywhere, likely in a Millennial setting. In anticipation of the work of the church, we see Christian believers bringing the Jews to God.

Isaiah 66:14-16

Isaiah tells us in verse fourteen of four results of His actions in the previous verses which will greatly benefit His people. But he also tells us of four aspects of God's wrathful fiery judgment. These are poured out on all the wicked and seem to point ultimately to the wrath of God on all nations at Armageddon. The essence of this judgment seems to be a judgment of fire on the earth which occurs during or immediately following the return of Christ.

Isaiah 66:7-13Isaiah gives one of the most astounding prophecies in all of the Bible. That is, that Israel will return to their land and be restored as a nation in a single day under the sovereignty and providence of God. We look at the specific and amazing fulfillment of that prophecy. There will be great joy and "exceeding gladness" for all of God's people as well as comfort and bountiful blessing.

Isaiah 66:4-6The Lord brings to our attention four sins that the Jews have committed for which He will bring punishment. These sins are especially involved with a specific rejection of God's calling. We are reminded that whatever a man sows, that also will he reap. God warns His own people that we may be hated and rejected because of our devotion to Him. Nonetheless the Lord will come with recompense on those who hate Him and those who have mistreated His people.

Isaiah 66:1-3God is eminent, exalted, and heaven is His throne. He cannot be contained in the universe or in the temple built for Him. We see that God made all things and made them with an immediacy, not over billions of years. We see also that in spite of the immensity and unfathomableness of God and our future glory with Him, what He desires to see in us now is humbleness, a contrite spirit, and respect that includes obedience to Him. The Lord detests hypocrisy and He gives four examples of it in this passage  and warns us that we cannot just make up our own system of religion or morality!

Isaiah 61:8-11

The Lord loves justice and will faithfully give the appropriate recompense for those who do justice and for those who do not. HIs covenant with HIs people is eternal. This covenant includes gentile believers and all God's people will be known among the nations, a possible reference to believers having perfect glorified bodies in the millennium! Isaiah ends the chapter with an outpouring of praise for His righteousness and God's phenomenal gift of salvation to humanity.

Isaiah 61:3- 7

God will comfort His people. Some comfort is certainly given in this life, but it will be fully given in the future when Christ reigns on the earth. The Lord will eliminate mourning, sin, fear, and fainting. His people will be strong, "Oaks of righteousness." God will be glorified in us and through us. We will eat the wealth of nations and those who formerly were enemies will serve God's people. We will have everlasting joy.

Isaiah 61:1-2

Isaiah chapter sixty-one begins with Jesus' own words about the redemptive ministry He will have when He comes the first time in particular. The chapter begins with a clear reference to the trinity. We note five aspects to Messiah's ministry: bringing good news to the afflicted, binding up the broken-hearted, proclaiming liberty to captives, freedom for prisoners, and to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord. Even in the midst of such wonderful news, the Lord does remind us that there is a coming day of vengeance and judgment.

Isaiah 55:11-13

God's word will absolutely accomplish what He sends it out to do. That purpose is very much tied up with the gospel which is what Isaiah 55 is all about. Part of the promise of the gospel includes eternal joy and peace. In fact, this passage pictures nature as celebrating the saving of God's people. The gospel is about an everlasting salvation.

Isaiah 55:6-11

The Lord declares that people need to repent and seek Him immediately. The door of salvation will not be forever open. God gives us the offer of repentance resulting in abundant pardon. The Lord also assures us that His ways are not like our ways, they are infinitely higher. This is the offer of perspective. No one can perceive God's thoughts or ways or processes. He assures us that what He intends to do WILL come to pass whether we can understand it or not.
