Ephesians 2:20-22

Paul gives us four aspects of the church in his analogy to the household. First, it is built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. Second, Jesus Himself is the cornerstone of the church. Third, the whole building of the church is being fitted together by God. Fourth, we are growing into a holy temple. WE also look at five extremely practical implications of the household analogy.

Ephesians 2:15-19

In the breaking down of the barrier, Jesus brings Jews and Gentiles together in one body and reconciles us to God. This is accomplished through Christ alone and provides access to both the Holy Spirit and to God the Father, again establishing the fullness of the trinity in our salvation. We are no longer strangers and aliens, but now have our citizenship in heaven.

Ephesians 2:14-15

Paul tells us that Jesus Himself is our peace, not a tool or a
doctrine, but He Himself. Additionally, we see how Jesus broke down the barrier between Jew and Gentile. We look at numerous passages about Jesus' qualifications, His His actions in the flesh, His fulfillment of Old Testament requirements, and God's abolishing of the ceremonial laws while keeping the moral law in place.

Ephesians 2:11-13Paul begins a new section of Ephesians as he addresses the makeup of the church: Jews and Gentiles in one body. Paul speaks in this passage about the spiritual condition of the Gentiles before they came to Christ. We look at five statements that describe the hopelessness of this condition. This reality still applies to all lost people today! Yet Paul says that all who were lost and are now found have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

Ephesians 2:10-11

Paul tells us that one of the very fundamental reasons that God created us is for us to do good works. We note what these ought to look like and their intention of serving others. Good works are a natural outgrowth of true saving faith and should accompany our faith in Jesus Christ. We examine four general principles about good works. Paul begins to address a major theme in Ephesians, that of the coming of Jews and gentiles together in one body. A difficult issue in the first century for both groups.

Ephesians 2:8-9
Paul expounds on the very essence of the gospel in these verses; the fundamental reality of salvation by faith alone. The study of Greek grammar in verse eight shows us that Paul does not say that faith itself is a gift from God, but that salvation is a gift. Faith is what we exercise. We also consider the dangers of legalism and how it tends to substitute a work-oriented salvation as opposed to a grace salvation.

Ephesians 2:6-8We look at the third of God's awesome actions that changed our eternal destiny; we are seated with Him in heavenly places as princes and princesses, we are victors having dominion, and we are permanent citizens of heaven. Paul tells us that God's absolutely astonishing purpose in redeeming us is to forever show us the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. We look at five stunning blessings for us in "the ages to come."

Ephesians 2:4-6As Paul instructs us about redemption, we see God's great heart for us in three main points: He is rich in mercy, He loved us with His great love, and He accomplished salvation by the work of His grace. We also look at the first two of three awesome actions which the Lord accomplished in Christ alone, that changed our eternal destiny: He made us alive together with Him and He raised us up with Him.

Ephesians 2:1-3Paul instructs us on the bad news of our pre-Christ existence. We were born spiritually dead due to the imputation of the sin nature all the way back to the sin of Adam. Three types of spiritual slavery followed that condition. First, we walked according to the sinful course of this world. Second, we lived ungodly lives under the power of Satan, called here "the prince of the power of the air." And, third, We were enslaved by all manner of fleshly lusts.

Ephesians 1:19-23Paul addresses the third of his three essential purposes of his prayer for the Ephesians: the surpassing greatness of His power. This includes the resurrection of Christ, His authority over all things, and His headship over the church. Paul's instruction about Jesus' authority leads us to an irrefutable view on the power, dominion, and deity of Christ. We see nine aspects of what is important to the Lord Jesus and therefore ought to be important to us.
