Margaret ‘Fanny’ Lumsden differentiates herself from Australian country peers with her clear-eyed, unvarnished articulation of life in the bush as it is, rather than as it was… A breath of fresh country air”

Fanny Lumsden’s name will only continue to get bigger across rural and metropolitan Australia alike – and that is very much deserved. – AU Review

The warm, organic production and Lumsden's warmth and humanity might actually win over fans who would usually prefer folky pop.” – Sydney Morning Herald

Undoubtably uniquely Australian, Fanny Lumsden’s sophmore album ‘Real Class Act’ makes her almost impossible to musically pigeonhole; not quite alt-country, not quite indie folk, but filled with the warmth and humanity of both genres with a welcome touch of pop. As the follow up to her ARIA nominated and crowd-funded ‘Small Town Big Shot’, a major national success that took out the Golden Guitar Awards, the CMC Award for Best New Talent and saw Fanny win the APRA Professional Development Award (Country), Fanny has gone the crowd-funded route again and honed her vibrant gift for songwriting on ‘Real Class Act’, out September 22nd.

Fanny’s lyrics on ‘Real Class Act’ are colloquially relatable to audiences as she charismatically recounts stories of everyday experiences, the beauty in the mundane, singing with raw honesty and appreciation for the minute details of life and human nature.

I love conversational lyrics and bringing in things that a lot of people relate to but haven’t maybe heard for a while or said out loud. Overall I am inspired by people’s stories and the places we travel, what they have been through and how it may be related to now or in a different context,” says Fanny.

The album captures those amusing moments of student salad days we have all experienced (‘Real Class Act’), the mature wisdom of choosing to skip the party and luxuriate in your elasticated sweat pants (‘Elastic Waistband’), to the socio-cultural issues with acceptance of men showing uninhibited emotions (‘Real Men Don’t Cry’), and to the simple pleasure of a long country drive on new single Roll On.

I want people to be able to listen to these songs and relate… at any level, whether that’s because they lived through similar things or whether they are inspired or even if it just makes their day a little better for a minute. Connection is clearly what we are after here and if it can also go further and translate into conversations or action, then that’s a win in my books,” says Fanny.
