Social Media has been criticised in the past few years for not doing enough to combat hate speech. Platforms like Facebook & Twitter have been accused of allowing elections and the democratic process to be interfered with. In 2020, a number of big brands including Unilever, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Adidas, and Ford, announced that for at least the month of July they would be pulling all advertising from Facebook and it's other owned platforms (such as Instagram). This is in a move to push Facebook to do more to combat hate speech, fake news, and racist activity across it's suite of apps. This episode looks at the broader context of the situation, as well as the challenges & opportunities that lie ahead.
This is for those who are open to new, this is for those who think forward.
