The Fader, Ep. 10: Ulrich Wild
There used to be a career path for young engineers that started with being a runner in the studio and provided the opportunity for those willing to work hard and learn to prove themselves and eventually get a shot at sitting behind the board for their very own session.
This is the world that Ulrich Wild grew up in, coming from Switzerland with nothing more than a 4-track tape deck and a solid work ethic.
Ulrich got the chance to prove himself, eventually engineering for many of Terry Date’s productions in the 90s and going on to put his name on a massive catalog of respected albums from Snoop Dogg to Fishbone to Slipknot, the Deftones and Dethklok. Ulrich’s passion for cultivating artists and bringing out incredible performances without overprocessing and editing is sought after by bands all over the world. We had the chance to sit down and talk about his beginnings in the recording world and some of his techniques now.
