They called it the Fairy Tale. Because like the story of Cinderella, it had a happy ending – one that involved a Prince who would find you, save you, and whisk you off to a happy, successful, and fulfilling life with a home, marriage, and children.

Or so we were told – the women of my generation that is. Only to find that the Fairy Tale was a fabrication, a fallacy – one that failed hundreds of thousands of women and changed the course of their lives forever. There would be no happy ending. Not in the way we were told. Not in the way we envisioned as a little girl growing into adulthood. Not in the way women over the age of 35 still clung to some semblance of hope, watching the clock the way Cinderella did that fateful night.
