Continuing in our series, The Famous Ones, we look at the calling of Abraham in Genesis 12:1–9 and what his story teaches us about faith and obedience. God called Abraham to leave his homeland, security, and everything familiar to follow Him into the unknown. Though Abraham didn’t have all the answers, he trusted God’s promise. Abraham believed God that through his life and family the nations of the earth would be blessed. Because of this, his story reminds us that when God calls us, obedience often requires stepping out in faith before we can see the full picture.

Additionally, Abraham’s life shows us that God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. God still calls believers today to use their gifts, resources, and influence to reach others. When we trust God’s calling and leave behind the things that hold us back, He can do something through our lives that reaches far beyond our own lifetime.
