On this Episode of Dad Is Not A Noun I was curious about who came up with Christian Nationalism/ Christian Nationalists because in our political climate there’s been a surge of politicans and talking heads who branded themselves Christian Nationalists. So I found out in the late 30s and early 40s Gerard L.K. Smith, a minister and political agitator with racist ideology blended faith and the flag as his Christian Nationalism Crusade which he founded The America First Party. He ran first president in 1944 and lost.. He was very outspoken about being racist and anti-Sesmitic which rallied his base which felt they were losing their country. Sounds similar? Right!!! He started a magazine and radio show called The Cross and Flag, the Christian Nationalist Crusade's magazine, claimed that six million Jews were not killed in death camps in Europe during World War II but instead immigrated to the United States during the war. He passed away in 1976, but his legacy is strong in the surge of Christian Nationalists today. Here's an audio of his radio show with his wife.
