Why is the fear of the Lord the beginning of wisdom? What does it mean to fear the Lord? This week’s episode focuses on Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”  When we are able to see and appreciate God as He really is-including all His moral attributes, His righteousness, holiness, sovereignty, and eternal nature- we develop a respect and reverence for Him, rather than actual fear. The fear of the Lord gives us the wisdom to live in continual submission and obedience to God’s will for our lives, which is more highly valued than all earthly treasure!

1. Psalm 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise ensures forever.

2.  Proverbs 15:33 “The fear of the Lord is the instruction for wisdom, And before honor comes humility.”

3.  Job 28:28 “And to the man He said, “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.” 

4. Isiah 33:5-6 "The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times,
    a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.
