  • Never After Dark: A Conversation with Director Dave Boyle

There are haunted-house movies—and then there are filmmakers interested in figuring out why those stories still scare us.

Jeff sits down with writer/director Dave Boyle to talk about his supernatural horror film Never After Dark, a Japanese-language ghost story starring Moeka Hoshi as Airi, a wandering medium whose latest encounter with the supernatural becomes something much more dangerous than she expected.

Boyle takes us inside the making of the film and the challenge of creating atmosphere, tension and genuine scares while working within—and playing with—the traditions of Japanese horror.

Never After Dark arrives with some serious festival credentials, including the SXSW Midnighter Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for Feature Film at the Overlook Film Festival.

It's a conversation about horror, filmmaking, culture and what happens when the things we should fear aren't necessarily the things that go bump in the night.

The Film Blerds talks movies from both sides of the screen, with reviews, industry conversations and interviews with the filmmakers and performers responsible for bringing them to life.
