Listen... I know the word "addiction" is one we want to run away from immediately, but the truth is, we are all addicted to something. With that, the only way to manage our dependencies is to face them head on. There are so many things that we get addicted to without realizing it. Social media, validation from others, shopping, etc... are all things that we can become dependent on. Today's episode is here to help you understand yourself better, remind yourself of your power, enlighten you on the psychology behind addiction, and empower you to make changes in your daily life.

Journal prompts for this episode:

  1. What are your forms of escapism? In other words, what tactics do you cling onto in order to avoid yourself and your own thoughts? (i.e smoking, working out, going on your phone, etc...)
  2. Why do you need to escape from yourself? What thoughts/situations are you trying to escape from?
  3. If someone were to come up to you right now and ask you why you haven't quit indulging in your addiction/escapism, what would you say to them?
  4. What story are you telling yourself? In what ways do you believe this thing is actually helping you? Do you have any evidence to support this behavior?
  5. If you were fully healed from this situation, what would your life look like?
  6. What are your coping mechanisms? Do you think they are helping or hurting you? How so?
