The First Step Act of 2018, passed as the result of bi-partisan efforts during the Trump administration, aimed to reduce the population of those in federal prison and to limit some federal prison sentences. Over the years some have contended the act is working well, while others argue it has only partially delivered on its goals or it was flawed from the start.
