The First Watch episodes

  • Ep. 34: All The President's Men

Join us in watching and discussing the 1976 Masterpiece starring a young Robert Redford and an even younger Dustin Hoffman. A staple of the paranoid thriller genre, this film checks all the boxes in craft, down to the fact they built their own Washington Post for the movie! So follow the money and listen to us dive into the details on this deepthroat fella you've heard so much about.

  • Ep. 32: Clerks

Join us in watching and discussing Kevin Smith's Writer/Director debut! The indie of all indie's launched not only his career, but a whole type of comedy. This is a fun one because we seem to be all over the map on the humor and entertainment value of the film so tune in for a little contention!

  • Ep. 31: Raising Arizona

Join us in watching and discussing a quintessential early Coen Brothers masterpiece starring a young Nicholas Cage, Holly Hunter and John Goodman. This is basically live-action looney tunes and that is just wonderful. Lots of children in peril has the parents in the room squirming but it also has some of the coolest camerawork flourishes you may ever see. Great performances all around paired with the early days of one of the great directing duos of all-time means that this one is an absolute must-watch. We hope you enjoy!

  • Special: The Odyssey

Another bonus new release episode, this time featuring one of the biggest and most anticipated of the year- Christopher Nolan's adaptation of the first story ever told. I don't think you need much selling as to why you should watch this and listen, but hey we'll do it anyway! Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson all giving Oscar-worthy performances, Nolan's masterful direction at it's peak, and Ludwig Goransson going sicko mode on the soundtrack are just a few reasons to watch. We hope you enjoy!

  • Ep. 30: The Social Network

Join us in watching and discussing David Fincher's 2010 Oscar-winning masterpiece starring a young Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and a totally-not-based-on-his-real-persona Justin Timberlake. This is an all-time favorite of Dan and Ozzy for many reasons, but the nascent Reznor-Ross partnership in becoming the best music scoring duo around is a big part of why. Great performances all around and a beautifully reigned-in Sorkin (thanks Fincher) make this one something special. We hope you enjoy!

  • Ep. 29: The Abyss

Join us in watching and discussing one of James Cameron's least remembered films. This one features the start of his love affair with deep-sea diving and an autobiographical fantasy version of how to reverse his impending divorce. And that's all without mentioning the gosh darn creature hanging out down there! Give this one a watch for a great Ed Harris and some incredible set design if nothing else. We hope you enjoy!

  • Ep. 28: Akira

Join us in watching and discussing a seminal anime text Akira! It needs no introduction but somehow you don't know what this is or have not heard of it, stop what you're doing and watch! This blueprint probably inspired most of your favorite anime and sci-fi media in general. Come for the accolades, stay for some truly wonderful body horror. We hope you enjoy!

  • Special: Nirvana the Band the Show the Movie

In another edition of "movies that are coming out now that we want to cover", this episode is a very special one to Dan. Join us in watching and discussing the ultimate version of Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol's Nirvana the Band's experience. It's one of a kind, we hope you give it a shot!
