As a new height of scientific and technological advancement was reached by the western world in the early 1900s, bringing the world such things as mass assembly line production, the dominance of manufacturing centers, the expansion of European railroads, the expansion of electricity, the first major uses of radio, and the inventions of the automobile and the airplane, the major European nations took major steps to place themselves in positions of superiority over the rest. National pride, the principles of Darwinian evolution applied to humans, mililtary buildup, imperial ambitions, and international defense alliances all combined in a hate-filled, arrogance-fueled, and power-hungry mixture of combustible materials that were eventually ignited by a hateful assassination of one of the superpower's royal heirs. By the end of the conflict, new nations were created, a large number of people were gone, more were permanently transformed, more evil powers were awakened, and the war between God and the devil had its battle lines drawn even more clearly than before.
The first world war paved the way for more perverted forms of Christianity, the rule of communism, the seedbed of Naziism, and the chaos of the warring factions surrounding the land of Palestine. Some nations emerged as new super-powers, while others faded away into weakened obscurity. However, in all of it, the King of the nations was working to bring about the good of His people, and transfer of more of the nations into His spiritual kingdom.
In this discussion, Chris and Casey give you a general overview of the major circumstances, conflicts, characters, and outcomes of World War 1, as well as an examination of what we can learn from this horrible war about our present situation as westerners, and even more so, about our condition as western Christians. Just as the Lord used the darkness of human evil to put the light of His gospel on display then, He's still doint the same, and wanting to do more of the same, in our dark, hopeless, and hateful modern society.
