This week on License to Parent with Trace Embry… Trace Embry and Rich Roszel talk a bit about what “I love” really means, the different types of love, and the various “love languages.” Joining them in this conversation is Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate, as well as many other books. He also speaks regularly at marriage conferences and on his radio shows: A Love Language Minute and Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman.  Additionally, Dr. Chapman serves as Senior Associate Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC.

  • What exactly is a “love language?”
  • What are the five “fundamental” love languages?
  • How do each of the languages function and differ from one another?
  • Leading by example: the importance of a healthy marriage in the context of a family and raising healthy teens.
  • Primary versus secondary languages and determining which language is most prevalent for any given person.
  • What a discussion of these topics should look like within a family.
  • Is it unhealthy for one parent to spend significantly more time with their children than their spouse does, as in the case of a stay-at-home parent married to the family’s sole breadwinner?
  • In an age of infinite distractions, which love language is the most threatened? What can be done to counter this interference?
