The Fly is a science fiction horror story by George Langelaan, first published in the 1957 issue of Playboy magazine. The story follows François Delambre, who receives a phone call from his sister-in-law, Hélène, confessing to killing her husband, André Delambre, a brilliant scientist. The narrative unfolds as François investigates the mysterious murder, eventually uncovering a shocking truth.
The story is renowned for its blend of science fiction, mystery, and psychological horror, exploring themes of identity, scientific ambition, and the consequences of tampering with nature. It inspired the 1958 film by the same title, starring Vincent Price and David Hedison, and the 1986 remake by David Cronenberg.
