Xul Beer Co, known for its bold and innovative brews, has been on a growth trajectory lately- and most recently has acquired the popular Southern Grist Brewing Co. based in Nashville, TN. This strategic move has the entire beer community talking about what the future holds for both brands. And even though the acquisition has not been finalized, the talk around the community was heating up, forcing both breweries to release some official news. In a power move that's being branded as bringing an expanded beer lineup, broader distribution, and exciting opportunities to Nashville, the stakes are high for Xul Beer Co.

Southern Grist, a Nashville fan-favorite, now joins forces with Xul, which has been making waves in the craft beer community with their unique style and consistent quality. Rumor has it that Xul’s team is looking to elevate Southern Grist's current portfolio with some new twists and maybe even some special collaborations down the line. Talk about merging powerhouses!

And what would a typical episode be without diverting attention to other topics because the boys are drinking too much beer?

Rich and the Tavour Dilemma:

Let’s be real- Rich has a problem. That problem is Tavour, and neither him nor his wallet are happy about it. Tavour's beer delivery service provides the opportunity to purchase rare, highly sought-after brews that would otherwise not be available for distribution in the area. Rich spends more on that service than a guy at a beer festival spends on all-you-can-drink tickets. But hey, who needs rent money when you’ve got a fridge full of limited-edition beers, right?

Scott's Promise:

In a bold move, Scott promised to bring the crew back some Xul beer from his Knoxville trip. Steve, Rich, and Mitch really hopes he pulls through!

While we didn’t get the chance to interview breweries this year, we still spotlighted some incredible ones that made a big impact — including Marble Fox and their No Crust Ale, which took home the top prize as Best in Fest! Other featured favorites included TennFold, Bearded Iris, Half Batch, Crosstown Brewing, Dark Shadow, Honeytree Meadery, and more.

Beers Consumed:

• Chocolate Milk Stout Prototype 2: A sweet, but not syrupy, creamy, chocolatey easy drinker that is made with the same chocolate as the award winning chocolate milk. This beer tastes EXACTLY like a chocolate milk, and that is DANGEROUS! This partnership brew between Cedar Glade Brews and MTSU college in Murfreesboro delivers a 5.6% dream.
• Lump of Coal: a heavy robust 9/1% imperial stout that is both hearty and satisfying. This beer was fully designed to go in to a barrel, but they decided to take a portion of it and put it on tap... Does this mean we're going to get a barrel aged version down the line? Only time will tell!
• Wintry Mix: Featuring all the tastes of winter--cranberry, orange, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and nutmeg--this slightly sour light refreshing beer is a perfect blend of spice and fruit and tart to warm you from the inside out!
• Semich: THIS BEER DOES NOT SUCK! Several yeasts were used that included native TN yeasts. Then it aged for over 2 years. The resulting beer is quite sour, extremely flavorful and absolutely wonderful. Brewed in Memory of Michael Semich, a founding member of Mid State Brew Crew. RIP Mike
