The Fods Pod

Listen Later

JB is joined by Ols from the band 'The Fods' for your latest episode of The Sound of the Bar.

We kick off with the background of the band and their alternative way of recording and making songs with the band being mostly based in the Manchester area and one of the members being based in New York.

There is some chat about an emerging project which is musician focused called Subvert which allows bands to have more control over how their music is shared, monetised and more. Make sure to check it out.

The band brought out a 7 track EP in 2024 called Don't Argue which features songs originally made in 1995. We discuss some of the influences behind it. Keep an eye out for their album which should come out around July of this year and has a pretty unique setup with all the songs featuring different vocalists.

One thing that we've discussed numerous weeks on the podcast is that people need to go and support emerging bands and singers by going to local venues. It's cracking value and you may just discover your new favourite band. Find out who Ols saw at small venues before they went on to become global superstars.

Ols gives us an insight in to a project in the surrounding areas of Manchester where there are 3 venues owned by musicians where bands can play, keep the full share of ticket sales and also merchandise.

We also discuss their label with is called Good Stock Records which features a few bands you should check out. There is also a radio show led by Rob from the band called The World of the Fods where you can submit tracks for free to be played.

As is tradition we round up with some quickfire questions.

Thanks to our sponsor, Arty Burgers (www.artyburgers.com) who are kindly offering 20% off their fantastic range of music prints, mugs and more using code THESOUNDOFTHEBAR to UK listeners.
