You know, sometimes I think we, as humans, overcomplicate things. We try to take shortcuts but end up getting lost. We get caught up in caring about the small details, instead of the big picture. Often, over-complication rears its head when it comes to forgiveness… When somebody wrongs us, we get fixated on the hurt they caused. We obsess over our pain. And we never forgive because we just don’t feel like it.
But the Bible says that the formula for forgiveness is pretty clear, and pretty simple. Luke 6:37 says, “Do not judged, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”
So, who in your life do you need to forgive? What are you waiting for? I can promise you that if you are waiting for a person who wronged you to say “sorry,” it may never come. If you’re waiting until you feel up to it, forgiveness may never happen. But if you’re ready to follow God’s formula, then I encourage you to forgive today. Allow God to set you free from an unforgiving heart. “Forgive and you will be forgiven.”
