A bored middle schooler who becomes engrossed in a secretive online forum after befriending another user in a sandbox game, who introduces him to the purported "real internet." Initially thrilled by the strange, rule-free community, the narrator is later persuaded to meet his online friend in person. Due to a change in his custody schedule, he accidentally provides the address of his father’s house. Upon visiting to check on the failed meeting, he discovers his father brutally murdered and his step-brother, Jake, missing, forcing him to recount the entire online ordeal to the authorities.
