From his first album as King Rap to his current Afro-Soul music, our next guest experimented with popular music throughout the late 1980’s and 1990’s. “Boss of the Road” was the song that marked Joe Nina as a talented composer, producer and innovator as his genre changed the face of South African music forever. Deservedly, Joe Nina was celebrated for the originality of his music and crowned as ‘The Pioneer of Kwaito’.
Committed to the development of local musical talent, Joe Nina is a devoted arts activist who believes in economic independence of the artist – and that a new business model with sound commercial rewards for musicians is long overdue. Some years ago, Joe Nina achieved yet another of his life goals by starting a record label company to assist young and upcoming musicians transform their careers and lives. The record label, Killa Joe, is self-funded and is a testimony to Joe Nina’s unwavering commitment to documenting African indigenous music.
