Wayne and Kimberly Jo continue their daily (M-F) devotion over the Fruit of the Spirit. Today's topic is patience.
Patience:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
3 areas we struggle with patience
1. Patient with people
"People are not inconveniences. People are opportunities."
2. Patient in trials
Rom 12:12
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
James 1:2-4
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
3. Patient with God
Romans 8:28
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Abraham waited 25 years! (75-100)
Helpful Scriptures
Isaiah 40:31
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Psalm 27:14
Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!
James 5:6-8
Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
3 things to remember:
1. Trust God’s plan (Rom 8:28)
2. Trust God’s heart
Romans 8:37-39
… we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
3. Seek God’s face
Phil 4:6-7
“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
