We discuss the food system in the U.S.: what it is, and how it differs from the agricultural system. We discuss the political, ecological and economic effects that our current food system is having on our resources, people, and environment on the local, national, and global levels. We discuss the current economic, structural, political, and ideological constraints on efforts to transform the food system; what that transformation might look like; and the role the people of Hawai'i could play in this transformation.
