Alan Browde is an activist and social innovator who is tackling the inequality gap in South Africa by focusing on food security. He is the Founder and former CEO of South Africa Harvest, which is the second largest food rescue operation in South Africa. SA Harvest has built an impressive logistics operation that rescues edible, nutritious food that otherwise would have gone to waste and delivers it to organizations who distribute it to people in need. Today Alan is focused on systemic policy interventions that can end the hunger crisis. He recently founded the Union Against Hunger, which is a coalition of organizations who are working to uphold the existing constitutional rights to nutrition and food for South Africans. Alan's episode provides an example of how to develop a pragmatic solution to a systemic problem, and simultaneously how to develop a model that can be replicated to solve similar problems around the globe.
