Sometimes discipleship takes on a different form. "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:20). Jesus will mentor and lead His disciples in areas they are otherwise unskilled at. And when lives are transformed, evil is defeated, and victory is obtained, He gets all the glory, honor and praise.
Being like Christ means we are called to do good works with our hands. Jesus was a carpenter by trade, which means we are following a skilled craftsman, who is not just a shepherd. As His disciple, when problems arise in and around your home, see what you can do to solve them. When the Bible says "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13), it is the truth. That is not just a memory verse. God designed it to be so for His children. Ask Him to show you what you can do, and even if you need to call professionals, Jesus may use them as part of His discipleship plan to allow for you to become a better steward of the home He has given you. "As He is, so are we in this world." (1 John 4:17)
I hope this project inspires you as much as it inspired me. Let's continue learning how to be Jesus' ancient disciples in our modern world!
