The Garments That Grant Us Eternity

“Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates.” — Revelation 22:14.

Picture this: the gates of the New Jerusalem open wide. The very light of God fills the place, and a countless multitude dressed in white enters with songs of victory. They made it. They were washed in the blood of the Lamb.

Now… imagine standing outside, realizing time is over — and there’s no chance left to change.

This verse is both a warning and an invitation. It speaks of two things that cannot be separated: washed robes and obedient hearts. The first shows we’ve been cleansed by the blood of Jesus — there’s no other way. The second shows that a forgiven life becomes a transformed life. The same grace that saves also sanctifies.

Today, many want heaven but refuse to change their ways. They want to enter the city, yet keep staining their robes with sin. But in heaven, no stain remains. No one who knowingly trampled on God’s law here will be taken there. Character doesn’t change at the last minute — it’s shaped now, in daily choices, in the small battles that reveal who truly rules the heart.

Jesus didn’t die just to erase our guilt, but to give us power to live a new story. When He returns, there won’t be time for last-minute repentance. Either your robes are washed, or they are stained.

So look at your life today. Do your actions show clean garments — or dirty ones? Are you living like someone waiting for the King, or like someone who’s forgotten He’s coming?

Today, Jesus calls you to wash your robes. Not tomorrow — today. Surrender what holds you back, confess what separates you, and ask Him to clothe you in His righteousness. There is no sin that the blood of the Lamb cannot cleanse. And when He comes, you’ll enter through the gates — not because you were perfect, but because you were purified.
