We often link the spread of Christianity to the travels of Paul the Apostle. But Peter is actually mentioned more often in the New Testament and planted several churches. What does his work tell us about our mission today and his role as a father figure to the worldwide church.

Peter argues with God a fair bit. In this story from Acts 10 God tells him to set aside food purity laws and open up the gospel to people from other ethnicities. Peter argues with this but then responds to an invitation to the house of a Gentile centurion. This day changed world history.

Even Peter. Forgiveness as a core characteristic of Christian character. Peter would quiz Jesus about how many times we should forgive (70 X 7 - not just the normal 7). But he became the great denier and had to be hoping that there would be forgiveness for him. As one of his final acts Jesus reinstates him. Peter's Struggles With Jesus Identity. The Transfiguration is a key event in helping Peter and the disciples move beyond their 'Jesus as a prophet of God' ideas and start to understand more fully that he was the Son of God. - This claim would draw greater anger from the elite of his day but would have huge implications for his death and resurrection.

In a moment that would provoke 3000 to pledge their allegiance to Jesus, Peter roots his call to them, his proclamation of the good news, in the promises of God and the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
