The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. ~Isaiah 9:2

The prophet Isaiah spoke of a people who walked in darkness but saw a great light.  We often hear those words by candlelight on Christmas Eve. No, we aren’t celebrating Christmas this week because that promise of light is not limited to one holy night. It shines through every season, every shadow, every challenge we face.

This Sunday, I will invite us to consider how God’s light continues to break into the world—not just at Christ’s birth, but in the ordinary and often difficult days of our lives. How does that light dispel the darkness around and within us? And where, in that light, do we find our hope renewed?
Even though it isn’t Christmas yet, it is good to be reminded that the light still shines, and the darkness has not overcome it.
