Between 1972 and 1990 a serial killer, Arthur Shawcross, also known as the Genesee River Killer, the monster of the rivers and the Rochester strangler murdered 13 people, 2 of whom were children.

Despite spending time in prison for the murder of Karen Hill, he would be released, to kill again.
