So even though it’s still winter and cold and often freezing, foragers, herbalists, medicine makers, outliers and that rare of rare people who live life on the hoop are getting geared up for the prominence of spring. For the next 6 or so weeks I will be interplaying the magic of two very wonderful and so readily available fantastic herbs, chickweed and nettle. They both start emerging now and in fact chickweed is often with us all through winter if you’re say in England or the north west coast.This week we talk all about how it is to identify the herbs you’re harvesting and just the process that I go through as I’m hanging out in the sidewalks, yards and layaways, because for these little ones we are not so much trouncing through the deep forest and glacier meadows but the grunge ridges of our populated habitats.
