Sonisha Srinivasan speaks to Ms. Niharika Salar about some of the practical challenges to the artisan communities like the gap between geographical indication registrations and actual empowerment, role of GI on livelihoods and revival of cultures, and quality control. About Ms. Niharika Salar:Ms. Niharika Salar, is a PhD scholar at Queen’s University, Belfast, UK. She has done extensive fieldwork with GI artisan communities. She is currently exploring the research frontiers of Intellectual Property Law, community rights and traditional weaving techniques. Prior to her doctoral pursuits, she served as an Assistant Professor at NALSAR University of Law (India), teaching courses to BA LLB & LLM students and supervising LLM thesis. An alumnus of National University of Singapore and National University of Study & Research in Law, India, her areas of research interest include Intellectual Property Law , socio-legal approaches to studying law and legal education. During her postgraduate studies at NUS Singapore, she was awarded the ‘Young Asian IP Scholar Award’ at the 5th Asian IP Works-In-Progress Conference Program, Hong Kong (2020).
