The Tari Experiment

The gift of "Deep Listening"

Listen Later

This was a wonderful and yet nerve-racking and very emotional episode to record because our goal was to go beyond the standard “active listening” narrative you hear everywhere on the Internet...

Yes, it is obvious we need to become aware of the other person’s body language, it is obvious we have to establish eye contact, nod to indicate understanding...

All of those are the basics of what should be a healthy communication process both in our personal and professional lives...

But we feel we need to go beyond that.

In this episode, we wanted to respectfully share the indigenous wisdom in regards to the concept of Dadirri or Deep Listening as explained by Dr Miriam Rose Ungunmerr-Bauman, Aboriginal elder and Senior Australian of the Year 2021.

And that’s why it was a wonderful but difficult episode to record.

Because we felt we were commenting on a completely different worldview without having the right tools or even the language to do it appropriately.

And yet, nevertheless, we wanted to make people aware of Dadirri as shared by Dr Ungunmerr-Bauman to the world.

We hope we did it justice.
