Welcome to another episode of A Peculiar Parent! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m super passionate about today’s topic which is emotions!! It’s funny because As I was editing I realized that I was talking louder in this episode as I was explaining some concepts and diving in…So if the volume seems a little extra today, it’s the passion!
In today’s episode we dive into why emotions are gifts! We talk about getting comfortable with them, expressing and talking about them, labeling, and a lot about validation. You’ll also hear me mention coping and problem solving and we did dive into that but I had to cut that part out because the episode came out to be over an hour… so I’ll have to make a part 2 and talk about those concepts.
A lot of what I talk about and honestly a lot of my knowledge of emotional intelligence comes from the amazing work of Alyssa Blask Campbell. She is the creator of seed.and.sew on Instagram and has a podcast called Voices of Your village. She is so knowledgeable on this topic and has actually done research, along with her colleague, Laurel Stauble and together they created the collaborative emotional processing method. Their book Tiny Humans, Big Emotions just released and you know I snagged a copy! I’d 1000% recommend you do too. And definitely check out her podcast and Instagram. They have so much good stuff to share so go check it out!
